Soccer Information 2019

If you are interested in soccer for the 2019 season here follows some information that may assist you.

Soccer season 2019 will run for nine weeks starting in the week beginning April 22nd, with the last games of the season taking place in the week beginning June 17th. Depending on field conditions, some teams may begin their practices in advance of the official season start date, and occasionally some teams may play "make-up" games in the week after the official season end (for example if they had to cancel an earlier game due to adverse weather).

Age divisions

Soccer is divided into six age groups as listed below.

Under 6 (Date of birth between March 1, 2013 and February 28, 2015)

Under 8 (Date of birth between March 1, 2011 and February 28, 2013)

Under 10 (Date of birth between March 1, 2009 and February 28, 2011)

Under 12 (Date of birth between March 1, 2007 and February 28, 2009)

Under 15 (Date of birth between March 1, 2004 and February 28, 2007)

Adult (15+) (Date of birth before February 28, 2004)

Each player must be registered in the correct age group for their date of birth range.

If you wish to make a special request for team placement for your child (such as placing siblings together, or placing your child with another particular child or coach) then your request must be emailed to the Soccer Director, Mark Lane at at the time of registration. The request must include a detailed reason of why the request is being made. Please note that any such special requests cannot be guaranteed, particularly if the request involves placing a child in an older age group than their age, as Parkland Fun Ball Soccer League has strict regulations about placing underage players in a higher division. Please additionally note that players may not be placed in a younger age group than their age regardless of circumstances.

Game nights

Under 6 soccer meets once a week on Fridays at 6:00pm at Onoway Elementary School.

All other age groups have one game per week at the days and times listed below, and will typically also have one practice per week at a time determined by the coach of each team. Games are played on a home and away schedule against the other teams in our league, which, at present, are: Blueberry, Duffield, Graminia, Muir Lake, Onoway and Wabamun.

Under 8 game night is Tuesdays at 6:30pm

Under 10 game night is Thursdays at 6:30pm

Under 12 game night is Wednesdays at 6:30pm

Under 15 game night is Tuesdays at 7:30pm

Adult game night is Fridays at 7:00pm

In addition to the regularly scheduled game nights listed above, Parkland Fun Ball Soccer League also organizes an annual Sports Weekend, which is held at Meridian Sports Park near Stony Plain, which this year will be on the weekend of June 8-9. Teams will typically play two games on either the Saturday or Sunday of this weekend.

Equipment Requirements

Usual equipment required for Soccer is as follows: Team Jersey, shorts, soccer socks, shin guards and suitable footwear.

The team jersey is provided by Onoway Soccer. Jerseys must be returned to Onoway Soccer at the end of the season, via your team manager. Families will need to provide the remainder of the equipment for their children. If you or your child wish, track pants or sweat pants may be worn instead of shorts.

The only mandatory piece of equipment required at all levels by the Parkland Community Soccer League is the shin guards, which must be fully covered by either socks or pants. Any player not equipped with these will not be permitted to play, and the referees will generally check this before most games. Please note that shin guards must also be worn for practices.

Regulation soccer shoes are optional, but no metal or pointed cleats or spikes, nor baseball cleated shoes are allowed. Please bear in mind that in certain conditions, such as when the field is damp, running shoes may not give a very good grip when running and kicking the ball.

If you have any questions about soccer then please feel free to contact our Soccer Director Mark Lane at , or you can call him at 780 818 1907.
